The Putnam Horseshoe Nail company was one of the early manufacturers at Port Norfolk. The attached illustration shows an advertisement including some of the day’s famous horses and reasons to buy the Putnam nail. In 1890 eight and a half tons of nails were manufactured every day by 425 employees .
Horseshoe Nails, Yachts and Nutty Buddys have all been made at the site of the horseshoe nail company.
